Art Afro #335 – “Sticky Note Afro” by Unicia R. Buster – June 25, 2016

“Sticky Note Afro” by Unicia R. Buster

A dear friend of mines was killed in an automobile accident on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Her funeral was on this day in Rockville. As I was trying to find out more details the next day about what happened, I looked her up on the internet. I came across places she lived and wrote them down on a sticky note. I have no reason or explanation as to why I did that. I knew where she lived. In fact, she told me a lot of stories about her siblings, her upbringing, her daughter, her grandson, her family, her neighbors, and her life. All of those things came rushing back to me. Our time spent together, conversations we had, meals we shared, patients we helped, and gifts we exchanged. As heartbreaking as the news was, I am very glad she was there to protect her daughter and granddaughter, who were in the car with her. Because I choose to believe she sacrificed her life to protect them. Because that was the kind of selfless, kind, humble, generous, sweet, and giving person she was. I will always cherish my memories of her.

I ended up making the wrinkled up sticky note (from balling it up) into this little Afro.
