“Free Motion Afro” by Unicia R. Buster

I was asked to be in an art exhibit for Black History Month, specifically for a quilted piece. Well, I haven’t quilted or sewn in almost a year. Needless to say, I needed to dust off my sewing machine and get busy. I have a quilt in mind that is incomplete that I should like to finish for the exhibition. The top is done and the layers have been pinned together. So what’s left: quilting the sandwich, binding and embellishing. Seems like a lot.

But it can be done. Firstly, I’ve only learned how to free motion quilt about two years ago and I haven’t had much practice. So, I must refresh myself in this technique. This was my first attempt. Very rough but once I did it a few times, it was like riding a bike. I have since started quilting the quilt sandwich (which is much larger than this little sample) and will be moving to the binding soon. Hopefully, by February 1st, it will be done.
