Fall is definitely here. Good bye my summer friend.

October 1 starts a new challenge within my Afro challenge. I’ve been seeing a lot of people wearing cameos lately and I even came across one among my grandmother’s things. I find them very beautiful and intricate. I joined #CreativeSprint¬†which is a 30-day challenge to boost creativity and I got my first assignment today.

DAY 1

YOUR ASSIGNMENT TODAY
Make something that fits in the palm of your hand using only the materials in your immediate environment.

The 30-day challenge will be a part of my Afros 365 challenge so that I’m not trying to create two things per day.

I thought about the cameo and the materials that were around me and decided to make something like it. Of course, I didn’t have a gemstone and carving materials but I had oven-baked clay, scrapbook paper and a water bottle top. I made a silhouette shape of an updo Afro hairstyle in red clay and glued it to a piece of scrapbook paper cut to fit the inside of the bottle top. I punched a hole in the top with a metal pick and thread a piece of red ribbon through it. So my cameo wasn’t exactly carved into something to make it a relief but it still looks nice. The glue, obviously, hasn’t dried yet but I’ll post another picture when it has. Also, the clay was not baked.
