I had a contest for fans to post selfies rocking their Afro. I, honestly, received only one entry. So, the winner is Shanaye LaBeaud from Richmond, VA.
In keeping with the crayon fun, I saw a Youtube video about melting crayons to create pictures. I didn’t want the drip down affect, so instead, I used a pencil sharpener to make shavings of the crayons directly onto the canvas. After making my picture, I placed the entire canvas into a hot oven (475 degrees F) for about a minute. It was so much fun, my son joined me and created his own melted crayon art.
The face melted together – she had eyes, eyebrows and a mouth – and I couldn’t figure out how I could add them post-melt. It was difficult to manipulate while wet because it only took about 10 seconds to cool and start hardening. But it’s definitely something I would like to play around with more.
However, I like how it turned out and I hope she likes it as well. I’m not sure if I should coat the entire thing with something for longevity because it doesn’t seem permanent.

Next contest deadline is September 30th.
